The Trip

The History

The Sons of Royalty is an eclectic group of individuals dedicated to raising money for Childline NSPCC through live music and a unique annual jaunt through North America entitled “The Great British Invasion”. In seven previous invasions we have raised over £160,000 for the cause, and we are the only motorcycle and car gang ever to have ridden all of the Rocky Mountain States for a British charity: Montana, Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming, Utah. Colorado, California, Nevada, New Mexico, British Columbia, Alberta..and additionally Tennessee, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Our members include the following: some of the UK’s finest musicians, suits, a distant living relative of Butch Cassidy rumoured to be living somewhere in South London, an A list actor, a surgeon, a town mayor, Special Forces veterans, artists, celebrity chefs, chartered accountants, property professionals, a descendant of Henry V111’s Yeoman of the Wardrobe, a royal refuse expert (motto Trashus Maximus) and even a personal service provider. This is the pedigree of this never before or again to be gathered together gang!

2018 - The Ride

The challenge each year is simple: to create a ride which is more spectacular than the previous year’s Invasion. This was the original concept. Imagine driving through the most spectacular scenery North America has to offer in the company of a really special group of people - drawn from the most diverse of backgrounds. And in the company of one of the UK’s most successful rock bands!

This year’s jolly jape will take us through the sacred lands of the following tribes: Cree, Nakoda, Stoney, Ktunaxa, Salish, Shushwap, Shoshonean, Chelan, Humptulips, Muckleshoot, Wallawalla, Wenatchee & Yakima.

All of which translates into the following most spectacular journey:

Day 1: Fly from Gatwick to Calgary, disembark and pick up your chosen Harley Davidson or car. From Calgary, drive west as your view goes from farmlands to undulating flatlands-to the Rocky Mountains. Overnight Kananaskis National Park. Verily a stunning opener of a day.

Day 2: Now we’re into them: we go deep into the Rockies through Banff, Lake Louise and then north up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper-with the best of stops along the way. This will be the case for the entire journey.

Day 3: Jasper to Blue River, through MT Robson National Park, and overnight in a Rocky Mountain town for a Rocky Mountain evening.

Day 4: Blue River to West Kelowna, from the mountains to the Okanagan…Canada’s wine producing region. Today and tomorrow we will ride the shoreline of the vast Okanagan Lake-the drive acknowledged to be the finest

Lakeside drive in British Columbia.

Stop ! Editor’s Note: All of our overnight destinations will be outstanding. At this point we will have stayed in the following accommodations: the best in Kananaskis, a Rocky Mountain special…and two 4/5 star hotel resorts.

Day 5….and Day 6: The ride’s title kicks in! Ride along the lakeshore and continue south, cross the border into the state of Washington and the Cascade Mountains and Pasayten Wilderness. The Cascades-where First Blood was filmed - became home to the highest concentration of Vietnam veterans who returned from the war and were unable to live in and adjust to normal society. This mountain range is as spectacular as it is remote, and is bordered to the North by the Pasayten Wilderness - the most remote part of the United States. Between the two nestles the Methow Valley….famed for its arts, crafts, local produce and culture.

We will spend two nights at Sun Mountain Lodge - the No 1 Resort Hotel in the state of Washington, famed for its views and choice of activities. Horse riding, fishing, hot air ballooning, hiking, a wine cellar to die for, and for golfers down the road one of the top two courses in the state….

So, our first day at leisure. Expect a chirpup !

Day 7: From day one it has always been our mission to ride the greatest roads in North America. We have ridden Route 66, The Going to the Sun in Glacier National Park, The Beartooth Highway in Montana…and many more.

It’s time for another: The Cascade Scenic Byway. This iconic drive will take us west from the Methow Valley to Bellingham WA, and the shores of the mighty Pacific Ocean. Overnight - expect oysters!

Day 8…and Day 9: A short hop back over the border to the city which has won multiple awards as the most desirous city on the planet to live in - Vancouver. Fitting therefore to be spending two nights in its number one hotel - the St Regis. Relax, shop, go whale watching, take a ferry to Vancouver Island, fish for salmon - the choice is yours!

End of tour dinner and concert.

Day 10: Fly home.
